Tis’ the season to make your 2025 Vision Board. Anyone else love the feeling Vision Boards give you? We’ll be going over the purpose of a vision board, psychological benefits, step-by-step instructions to create, and how to practice exercises to help make your Vision Board come true.
What Does a Vision Board Do?
A Vision Board is a creative tool to take your goals from dreaming to reality. With the correct practices and proper techniques to create, your Vision Board will come true… and if it doesn’t, remember it’s just the timing of what’s best for you to come.
What is Best to Use for a Vision Board?
The best thing to use for a Vision Board are Quotes and Affirmations. The meaning of your photos may fade throughout the year. However, quotes and affirmations will reassure you of what you’re working towards.
Quotes and Affirmations are must to add onto your Vision Board because it’ll…
- clearly identify what your photos mean without forgetting the meaning as the year goes on
- make your goals crystal clear by labeling them to stay on track
- provide positive thoughts through affirmations when viewing to form a dopamine release
This helps to identify your photos, make it crystal clear on what your goals mean, and provide positive thoughts when viewing your Vision Board.
What is the Psychology Behind Vision Boards?
Visual Repetitiveness: When you repeatedly see the same images over and over again, your brain registers this as a priority. This activates the Reticular Activating System (RAS).
Law of Attraction: This is a common practice that whatever you focus on will come true. If you focus on the positive, you will see more positivity in your life. However, this also works vice verse.
Dopamine Release: Your Vision Board if done correctly will be filled with photos and quotes that make you happy and motivated to take action. Constantly being reminded of your Vision Board goals will help to train your subconscious mind which helps to SQUASH barriers and limiting beliefs that you think (not based on facts) prevents you from achieving your goals.
What Supplies Do You Need To Make Vision Boards?
The supplies you need to make your Vision Board:
Base board: This could be a white poster board, a bulletin board, the lock screen of your laptop/phone. You need somewhere flat to layout your photos.
Physical photos: You can use magazines to source out your photos and quotes. Another alternative is to download photos from Pinterest.
Glue: Try using tacky glue to give yourself time to rearrange the photos if needed. Other options include a glue stick, double sided tape, or a hot glue gun (use with caution by only applying a small drop to corners as it can burn and damage through physical photos)
Scissors: I prefer to use a paper trimmer tools to evenly cut my photos.
Vision Board Quotes: As much as photos are powerful, they may be hard to identify without adding on encouraging quotes or words of affirmations. I personally use a Vision Board Kit to save the hassle of searching for ones that go well together and align with my photos.

Where is the Best Place To Put Your Vision Board?
The best place to put your vision board that has worked for me is above my work desk to constantly remind myself of all my goals. If you aren’t home all the time, keep this near your bedside. This is powerful to have in your thoughts right when you wake up and before you go to sleep to make your goals come faster. Another great way to stay reminded of your vision board goals is to take a photo of your vision board and save it as your phone or laptop lock screen.
How To Create Your Own Vision Board?
Follow these 6 simple steps to create your own Vision Board:
1. Write Your Goals for Each Area of Life
Here are 9 common life areas you may want to focus on:
2. Find Photos to Match Each Goal
When selecting your photos, you should envision yourself being right there in the scene of the picture. This photo should get you excited and make sense to you. Listen to your intuition and trust where it’s guiding you.
You can find photos on Pinterest by searching for your goal and adding aesthetic in the search bar. For example, if my goal is to become a blogger for my career, I would type in “blogger aesthetic.” Then hit download on the three dotted lines on the top right to save the photo to your device.
I have a Pinterest board you can use to quickly find and download photos for each life category.
3. Organize and Design on Canva
Once the photos are saved, open up Canva and enter in a custom size that fits your printing sheet. Typically, the common size of physical printed photos are 4″ x 6″. However, look up the sizes offered on where you plan to print. Personally, I love printing at Staples Canada as the photos always print out sharp and clear.
To make this easy and quick for you…
- Each page should be for one life area category. E.g. page 1 for career, page 2 for wellness.
- Divide each page into an even number: two, four, or six sections depending on how many goals you have (see below)
- Fill each section with one photo. You do not need to overlap any photos.
Here is an example of one page with four sections to fill in with photos:
This is the complete ONE PAGE on Canva for WELLNESS divided into 4 sections. Some of the photos I stretched.
If you have multiple goals for one life area or would like to bring emphasis to a larger sized photo on your Vision Board, create as many additional pages as you need.
4. Print Your Photos
Search your nearby stores for printing services, Walmart and Staples are two popular choices in Canada. Physical photos are usually cheap. I recommend Staples as the photos never let me down and always print with high-resolution. At Staples, per photo is $0.39 plus applicable tax.
5. Layout Your Photos on Your Base
If you designed each physical photo to represent one life category as mentioned above, lay all your photos in an even line from one edge to another. As each printed photo is in a form of a collage, everything will flow nicely.
Use a thick white poster board as your base to layout your photos. Here is an example of one you can use:
You can also use a bulletin board or card stock. Using scrapbook paper or printer paper may be too flimsy and weak to hold your photos.
Place the same type of photos into one section of your base to easily label and decorate with quotes and affirmations later.
6. Decorate and Label with Quotes and Words of Affirmations.
Label each photo with your life area category by placing it in the centre or top middle. As the year goes on you will know exactly what you’re working towards.
In between each 4 x 6 photo, add an affirmation or quote in the middle to join everything together and make it flow.

How Often Should You Create a Vision Board?
I recommend making three types of Vision Boards:
- a yearly Vision Board to overview your entire 2025 goals
- a quarter year (every 3 months) Vision Board to breakdown those yearly goals into short term goals
- a monthly Vision Board to describe the exact steps and actions you plan to take to achieve those short-term goals
I find that making a Vision Board for the entire year can feel overwhelming and disappointing if you do not know how to action. This is why I recommend breaking down your Vision Board into small timelines ranging from every 3 months to monthly.
Bite size goals will help you feel confident, empowered, and encouraged to take action on your goals and achieve them.
